Eryngium planum 'Blue Hobbit' is a unique, perennial dwarf Sea Holly which produces dozens of unusual spikes of flowers that are a favourite for cutting, whether fresh or dried. Naturally compact, plants are ideal when situated at the front of a border in full sun and also perform beautifully in pots and containers, where that can be mixed in with other plants for a summer display to remember!
The thimble-sized, metallic-blue flowers are surrounded by a collar of short spikes and are carried on short, blue stems that rise from the clump of rounded basal leaves in summer and early autumn to fill your pots and borders with colour and texture.
Each thistle-like head is composed of many smaller flowers, each of which provides a valuable nectar source for pollinating insects so naturally plants are very attractive to insects.
The masses of metallic-blue flower sprays remain attractive for weeks, shrugging off inclement weather and drought (when established) and look spectacular when grown in a gravel garden or seaside garden - their natural habitat!
For drying, pick stems just as the flower clusters open fully, and hang upside down to dry in a warm, dark place.
Supplied as 3 x established plants in 9cm pots, ready to pot on or plant out as the weather warms.
Note plants are dormant October - March so may show no leaves in the pot.
